Overview

CX7172D is a current‑mode PWM control chip designed for flyback solutions with power rating up to 100 W. It operates at a fixed internally‑trimmed switching frequency under PWM mode. At no‑load or light‑load conditions, the operating frequency is adjusted internally by the IC. The chip supports green‑mode operation to reduce light‑load power loss and improve overall system efficiency.

It requires only tiny current during startup and normal operation. A large‑value resistor can be adopted in the start‑up circuit to further lower standby power consumption. Integrated slope compensation circuitry prevents sub‑harmonic oscillation under high‑duty‑cycle conditions and enhances system stability. Built‑in leading‑edge blanking (LEB) eliminates interference caused by diode reverse‑recovery current from the snubber network.

CX7172D adopts frequency‑jittering technology to effectively improve system EMI performance. The frequency‑hopping range is set above the audio band (22 kHz) to avoid audible noise during operation.

Multiple protections are integrated inside CX7172D, including cycle‑by‑cycle over‑current protection (OCP), VDD over‑voltage protection (VDD OVP), VDD over‑voltage clamping, under‑voltage lockout (UVLO), and over‑temperature protection (OTP). Its internal soft‑driving architecture further optimizes system EMI characteristics.
