PD+QC dual circuit 83W vehicle charging solution

This is an application of a dual way vehicle charging fast charging solution with a total power of 83W and a power of 65W+18W. The solution is equipped with a 1A1C interface, where the USB-C port supports 65W PD fast charging and also has a PPS voltage range. The USB-A port supports up to 18W fast charging, and the dual ports can simultaneously charge quickly.

This is a USB PD fast charging solution application based on the CX8838B, which is a synchronous four switch unidirectional voltage up and down controller. It can adjust the output voltage to be higher or lower than the input voltage.

CX8838B can operate within a wide input voltage range of 3.6V to 32V. A wide input voltage range of 32 V (up to 36 V) to support various applications.

CX8838B adopts constant conduction time control in buck, boost, and buck operating modes.

CX8838B is equipped with 4 external NMOSs, which can be paired with NMOS. The CX3075B achieves efficiency conversion of the same rise and fall.

CX8838B can continuously load a current of up to 20A and can stably adjust the output voltage when the input voltage is above or below the output voltage, supporting various voltage rise and fall field applications, providing the optimal solution for high-power Type-C PD car chargers.

The complete solution combination is: CX8838B+CX3075B * 4+CX8576+CX601+CX2965C, which forms a compact, efficient, and stable 83W high-power fast charging vehicle charging solution.


The input buck converter adopts CX8576, which is a buck DC-DC converter with an input withstand voltage of 40V and can achieve precise constant voltage and dual constant current. The CX8576 is equipped with 10m Ω High side N MOS and 10m Ω Low side NMOS, which can support 4.8A continuous output current and adjustable output voltage, and can support up to 95% duty cycle.


CX2965C is used as the C port protocol chip for this car charging. It is a multi-protocol port controller that integrates USB Type-C, USB Power Delivery (PD) 2.0/3.0, PPS, QC3.0/2.0ClassA fast charging protocol, Huawei FCP/SCP fast charging protocol, Samsung AFC fast charging protocol, BC1.2 DCP, and Apple device 2.4A charging protocol. The CX2965C supports up to 65W output power, and the broadcast PDO voltage can be configured as 5V/9V/12V/15V/20V, The APDO voltage can be selected from two levels in 5V Prog/9V Prog/15V Prog/20V Prog, and the APDO voltage range can be flexibly configured.


USB-C supports 65W PD fast charging and 5A PPS output, USB-A supports 18W fast charging output, dual port supports independent fast charging output, and the total output power is 83W.


The 83W high-power dual circuit vehicle charging and fast charging scheme consists of a one way voltage up and down circuit and a one way voltage down circuit for high-power PD vehicle charging. The voltage up and down circuit uses CX8838B combined with CX2965C protocol chip to easily achieve PD 65W synchronous voltage up and down conversion output, meeting the needs of mobile phone fast charging and notebook charging. The voltage down circuit uses CX8576 synchronous voltage down converter combined with CX601 QC protocol chip to achieve high efficiency output of 18W QC fast charging.
